Rachel Rowitt, LMHC  (Grace Counseling, Inc.) Grace Counseling Christian Counseling

I am a licensed mental health counselor and I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy utilizing thought processes to achieve behavior modification. Working in a variety of settings has enabled me to gain valuable insight and experience into what works best in helping people overcome their anxieties, failures and/or life controlling dependencies.

As a member of the American Association for Christian Counselors, I provide Christian counseling which addresses the mind, body, and spirit through the utilization of biblical principles to achieve peace. A healthy understanding of who we are in Christ can free us from the bondage of performance, poor self esteem, self-medicating behaviors and many other unhealthy patterns.

Over the years I have found that a common theme in any setting is adjustment to life situations or circumstances that people are dealing with that are beyond their control. I look forward to having the opportunity of working with you, examining how your thoughts impact your behaviors and actions, and creating healthier coping skills moving you through life in a successful and fluid manner.

Healthy relationships
Healthy relationships include the promotion of healthy self-esteem and long lasting happiness. In the past, I have conducted groups on healthy relationships and found that love is essential to us as human beings. The longing to love and be loved is an innate desire and from time to time we all need a little advice in this area. Communication is one the keys to learning how to mediate relationships and I offer you an opportunity to examine what else may be helpful in making your relationships lasting and successful.

Anger
Anger is often seen as a negative emotion; however it can be an opportunity for you to learn how to manage your true feelings by unlocking the key to managing your anger. Anger sometimes has the stigma of being a man’s emotion exclusively, but this is not the case. Men, women, young adults, and teenagers often struggle with frustration and anger and all need an opportunity to find their own healthy outlets, ways to redirect this powerful emotion, using it and re-directing it towards healthy outlets and outcomes. These outlets might be different for everyone and it will be my job to help you find yours.

Chemical dependency
Addictions can be seen as a way to escape from negative feelings, situations, and thoughts. You might use substances to help you relax, but find that you have become more dependent on that substance than you would like. I commend you for trying to find a healthier way of coping by searching for help. I would like to share with you the vast amount of positive coping skills specifically geared for those who are struggling with chemical dependency to aid you in developing and maintaining a healthy, drug free lifestyle.

Anxiety
Anxiety may be seen as a common theme in all my above mentioned areas of expertise. There are many people who wrestle with anxiety and have found that it can be overwhelming at times. It is important to understand what the difference is between rational and irrational worry which can also help you gain more control over your anxiety. Worry does not have to dictate your behaviors and I will help you to decrease your level of angst by helping you understand the underlying thoughts behind worry.

Personal Theory of Change

If we know our motivation behind behaviors that are unwanted, we are then able to master change in our lives. Desire is important to achieve this task and if the individual is not willing to explore all aspects of their mood, personality and environment, then this mission may be to no avail. When working in individual therapy it is important to approach the person from all aspects mentioned above with the goal of autonomy. I believe that the goal of therapy as a whole is for the individual and families to be able to maneuver through life without the on-going assistance of a therapist.
